Beef 1 kg
Potato 12 pieces
Onion (medium) - 6
Garlic paste -2 tsp
Ginger paste - 2 tsp
Red chili powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Cumin powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Cardamom (1 inch piece) - 3
Bay leaf - 2
Fenugreek (methi) powder - 1 tsp
Saute onion in pressure cooker till they are light brown.
Add all spices except fenugreek and fry for 20 mins, stirring frequently and adding 3/4 cup of water (about 3 times) whenever the mix dries up.
Add beef and fry for a few minutes (until water starts coming out of beef).
Add water to level of beef and bring to boil.
Cover and cook under pressure for 15 mins (i.e. 15 mins of whistling).
Open lid and add potato and pressure cook for further 8 mins.
Beef and potato should be soft by now. Remember that some of the water will be absorbed into the beef with time, so keep the water content accordingly.
At last, add a level teaspoon of methi and turn off the burner.
I have to try this with 1 tsp of mustard seed paste along with the fenugreek at the last step.
